FE Colleges Skills Programme

We partner with Further Education (FE) colleges and logistic employers to support the logistics industry and help drive economic growth and expand opportunities within our communities.

The logistics sector employs over 1.8 million workers directly, and 2.7 million in total when logistics occupations in other sectors are included. This equates to 8.3% of all employment (Labour Force Survey. ONS, Q3 2022). In 2022 the logistics sector contributed 185bn to the UK economy (Gross Value Added, or GVA).

The challenge

Our sector faces significant recruitment challenges, made more difficult by an ageing workforce. Unfortunately, only 4% of 18–24-year-olds would consider a career in logistics, despite the opportunities it offers for a wide-ranging and rewarding career. We aim to address the negative perceptions of the sector and promote the availability of attractive, fulfilling jobs at all levels for people of all backgrounds. Students represent a pipeline of talent for the logistics and supply chain sectors. If we do not address the immediate and future skills shortages across the sectors, this could undermine the resilience of UK supply chains.

With the support of FE colleges and employers we believe we can make a real difference to the sector.

Getting involved as a College

We partner with Further Education (FE) colleges to support the logistics industry by addressing the skills gap now and in the future.

We achieve this initiative by providing consultancy support to your teams, to build relationships with local and national employers so that your curriculum can be adapted and strengthened to meet local needs.  Through interactive sessions to current and future students we explain the diverse job roles within the sector and skills required for now and the future.

We can support your college with a variety of workshops, including:
