A Hairdressing Professional is creative, passionate and driven, with good attention to detail and demonstrable customer service skills. They provide a high quality service and are expected to continuously develop their
personal and professional skills.

A Hairdressing Professional works in the hair and beauty sector. The work environment is always client facing, but can be varied in size and style, from a small micro-salon, to franchises or large high street premises.

A Hairdressing Professional will provide a range of hairdressing services to meet their customers’ requirements, that will be based on a comprehensive consultation and understanding of their needs. A Hairdressing Professional will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for both ladies and men.

A Hairdressing Professional takes ownership of their work and clientele, accepting personal responsibility where appropriate. They need to be proactive, flexible and adaptable and ensure they plan their work and time to provide the best efficiency. They must be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision,
and consistently demonstrate their exceptional client care skills.

Gateway requirements and EPA Criteria

The decision to take an apprentice through Gateway is made between the employer, training provider and apprentice, typically after 24 months on-programme.

The apprentice must have completed all on-programme elements before they enter Gateway, including:
