ST1273: Barbering Professional

A Barbering Professional is creative, passionate and driven, with good attention to detail and demonstrable customer service skills. They provide a high quality service and are expected to continuously develop their
personal and professional skills.

A Barbering Professional works in the hair and beauty sector. The barbershop work environment is always client facing, but can be varied in size and style, from a small micro-barbershop, to franchises or large high street premises.

A Barbering Professional will be able to shampoo and condition hair and be proficient at cutting hair using a range of barbering techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks. They also need to be able to cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services. Barbers must be able to work with all hair types, characteristics and classifications ranging from straight (type 1) hair to very curly, hair with texture (Type 4 wiry hair).

A Barbering Professional takes ownership of their work and clientele, accepting personal responsibility where appropriate. They need to be proactive, flexible and adaptable and ensure they plan their work and time to provide the best efficiency. They must be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision,
and consistently demonstrate their exceptional client care skills.

Gateway requirements

To be eligible for the Gateway Stage of the End-point Assessment, the apprentice must meet the following Gateway requirements. A full time apprentice will typically spend 12-18 months on-programme.:

Complete the on-programme stage of the Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals (Barbering) qualification

Prepare a portfolio of evidence

Achieve Level 1 Mathematics and Level 1 English qualifications (or relevant equivalent)

Take the assessment for Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English

End-point Assessment (EPA) Criteria

EPA consists of three assessment methods: a knowledge test, a practical assessment and a professional discussion, underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
