The pandemic may have been a struggle for many, but particularly those working in the NHS. Learners at Eastleigh College went beyond clapping on their doorsteps, and offered NHS staff in the local area complementary treatments as a way of showing their appreciation.
Twelve NHS staff members took advantage of the offer in December, enjoying facials, massages, manicures, pedicures and haircuts from learners from all levels of Hair and Beauty study. This was particularly beneficial for Level 2 learners, as they gained first-time salon experience. Level 3 learners also used the campaign as part of their commercial salon timetable slots.
Learners were able to develop their transferable skills and consider health and safety, aftercare and communication.
All of the NHS staff who received treatments and filled out client feedback forms were happy with their experience, ticking the most positive response.
NHS staff member Alison Kilroy spoke of her experience with Level 2 Hairdressing learner Falon Auld:
“Falon listened to what I wanted, made recommendations throughout and constantly checked that I was happy. I love the finished result – a very happy customer. Thank you.”
Campaign organiser Caroline Perrett said:
“The NHS have worked tirelessly through these unprecedented times and we wanted to give something back as a special thank you. We have also decided to continue the free treatments to all NHS staff until the end of the academic year.”
