Director of Qualifications and Standards

Daniel Tromans

Dan joined VTCT Skills in December 2024, from the awarding organisation EAL where he was Head of Service Delivery and Responsible Officer. While at EAL he oversaw the restructuring of several teams within his department, the rapid growth of EAL’s EPA provision, and implemented the organisation’s 10-year strategy.

Dan gained a PhD in Biophysical Chemistry for the University of East Anglia before leading the Science and Engineering Department at UWE Bristol’s International College. At the College he established many of the academic policies and procedures and oversaw two inspections by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). Dan then went on to work at Qualifications Wales where he had senior roles in qualification policy, reform, development, and commissioning. Dan also supported the development of the new Curriculum for Wales as a member of the Curriculum and Assessment Advisory Group.

To further support the education and skills sector, Dan is a Governor at a primary and secondary school, chairing the Teaching and Learning Sub-Committee.

Dan lives with his wife, Laura, and son Max in South Wales (that is when they are not travelling through the UK and Europe in their campervan).
