The role of an Express Delivery Operative will usually be to drive a light commercial vehicle/van of fewer than 3.5 tonnes GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight).
The type of operation and job role will vary according to each employer/transport operator. Examples of work carried out by an Express Delivery Operative could include final mile, home deliveries and/or express parcels collections and deliveries.
The rise of world class equipment and software has increased people’s expectations of timely deliveries and round the clock service to homes and businesses. A Express Delivery Operative therefore has a high level of individual responsibility for their working day and delivery route, to ensure they maximise their efficiency. They may be required to complete elements of a delivery on foot using trolleys or to use a vehicle such as a pedal cycle, motorbike, van or lorry.
